Delft Antique Market: Objects, Stories and Discoveries
Join us for a day at the famous Delft Antique Market, set in one of the Netherlands' most beautiful and historic cities.

Among old porcelain, silver and objects of the European home, history remains surprisingly tangible. Here, objects are not simply things to buy or admire; they are traces of lives, tastes and traditions.

Our journey begins at 11:00 in a café in the heart of Delft. Over coffee, we will talk about the remarkable story of Delftware, why Delft Blue became known throughout Europe, and how to distinguish an exceptional object from one that is merely decorative.
Most importantly, you will learn to look at an antique market with a more informed and curious eye.

We will then visit the antique salon of a well-known collector and encounter objects that are rarely seen outside museum collections. Seventeenth- and eighteenth-century Delftware, antique Delft tiles and Frisian Makkum pottery can be examined up close and, on occasion, even handled.

Then comes the treasure hunt itself.

During the day, we will:
  • explore the world of authentic Delftware and Delft Blue
  • examine marks and discuss our discoveries
  • learn how to recognise quality and age
  • talk about what makes an object collectible
  • discover why some objects become lasting companions while others remain merely possessions.
